Context and challenge

Burnout is no longer a rare occurrence—it's a widespread crisis impacting nearly 40% of workers in Spain. Healthcare professionals, educators, and many others are at the forefront, facing long hours, emotional exhaustion, and overwhelming workloads. Bunburn was developed to tackle this issue head-on, offering personalized support throughout the workday to prevent burnout and improve mental well-being.

ResearcH

We conducted desk research, surveyed 217 workers, and held 5 user testing sessions with professionals across industries (5+ years of experience), uncovering burnout as a five-stage spiral. Unlike meditation apps like Calm and Headspace, no 2022 solution tackled burnout holistically. Bunburn’s micro-interventions target each stage, informed by user needs.

Key UX Insights

Work consumes 1/3 of our day, shaping daily well-being.

Long-term workers face frustration, exhaustion, and uncertainty.

Timely, tailored interventions prevent burnout’s peak.

The Burnout Process

Burnout is not just fatigue—it’s a process that evolves through five key stages, similar to the process of a toast burning. At each stage, the emotional and physical toll becomes greater, but by recognizing early signs and intervening, we can disrupt the cycle before it becomes irreversible.

THE PROBLEM

Work consumes a third of our day, yet for professionals with 5+ years on the job, it fuels frustration, exhaustion, and uncertainty. Burnout evolves through five stages—from Fresh and Toasty to Well Done—eroding well-being. Our team designed Bunburn to halt this cycle.
